Joe McDonough launched his career in the semiconductor industry at Monolithic Memories Inc., first in product marketing and later in sales and channel marketing. As Director of North American Distribution for Altera, Joe managed channel sales growth from $20M annually to more than $400M. As Director of Supply Operations and Customer Service for Stretch Inc., a microprocessor start-up, Joe built an extended supply chain of outsourced manufacturing operations in: Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, and China.
After Altera, Joe and his brother co-founded Barrington Partners, a seed stage venture capital firm. Barrington made Series A investments in four Internet companies that reached the public equity markets including eLoan (NASDAQ: EELN) and zipRealty (NASDAQ: ZIPR). Joe remains a substantial shareholder in Toolwire (www.toolwire.com) a leading developer of multimedia instruction and learning games for higher education and industry.
Since 2012, Joe has refocused his energy into edtech. As Founder of Athentica P.B.C., he promoted Internet based instruction as a way to increase access to and improve the effectiveness of publicly funded job skills training. In 2014, Athentica consulted to the city of Boston and the State of Massachusetts regarding ways to integrate nascent online learning platforms with long established workforce investment infrastructure.
In July 2015, Joe joined ArtistWorks, Inc. (www.ArtistWorks.com), a GSVLabs member company, in the position of Vice President Business Development & Sales. ArtistWorks is the Internet’s leading supplier of interactive musical instruction that is personalized to the needs and learning styles of individual learners.
Joe holds a BA from Harvard University and an MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. When not working, Joe is often seen wandering around the San Francisco Bay Area shooting photos of random stuff with his Olympus OM-D camera.
